Flagship Program Curriculum
Our curriculum is flexible and accommodates students of all different proficiency levels, with the ultimate goal of bringing students to a superior level of language proficiency. Reaching this level of competency requires commitment and hard work, but the ALIF program helps each student succeed by providing personalized study plans consisting of traditional language courses complemented by co-curricular activities, personalized tutoring and overseas study in Alexandria, Egypt .
In addition to the coursework required for their majors/minors, ALIF scholars:
- Complete Arabic language courses designed to support student success in the Arabic general education courses as well as to develop increased competency in Arabic.
- Participate in a year-long overseas study experience at Alexandria University, Egypt.
- Study spoken Arabic dialects in addition to their focus on Modern Standard Arabic.
- Complete a specialized project relating to the student's academic interests with the assistance and support of the ALIF academic director and an Arabic-speaking mentor; present the project, in Arabic, to other students and ALIF scholars.
- Create web-based portfolios which demonstrate their Arabic proficiency for future employers and/or academic admissions officers.
- Receive a final language proficiency assessment that can be shared with potential employers or graduate schools.
