MSU offers more than 150 major programs for undergraduates and is one of the leading research institutions in the country. In addition, it is a national leader in study abroad among U.S. public universities. Each year, more than 2,000 MSU students travel abroad, joining one of the 240 programs of study in more than 65 countries.
Students at Michigan State University are able to participate in more than 500 student organizations and many other on-campus events and activities, such as cultural events, films, lecture series, concerts, banquets, conferences, conventions, trade shows and more. Students can enjoy theatrical performances, exhibits and a wide array of programs at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts MSU Museum, the Breslin Student Events Center, the Art Museum, Abrams Planetarium and the Horticulture Demonstration gardens.
MSU has 25 Spartan Division I intercollegiate athletic teams and many students participate in MSU's club-level sports. In addition, MSU has one of the largest intramural sports programs in the nation. The intramural facilities at MSU include: playing fields and gyms; ice arena; basketball, tennis, volleyball, and racquetball courts; golf courses; swimming pools; indoor running tracks; and weight rooms.
Students at MSU enjoy a casual and friendly Midwest atmosphere. There are a variety of shops and international restaurants and supermarkets near to the university. The East Lansing community hosts special events throughout the year such as the East Lansing Art Festival, Film Festival and Folk Festival. East Lansing is only minutes away from the downtown Capitol area as well as Old Town Lansing which has a unique art community. East Lansing is also within close proximity to many major cities including Detroit, Chicago, and Toronto, as well as numerous splendors of natural wonder like the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. Students enjoy a colorful autumn, a snowy winter, and a warm pleasant summer in Michigan.
